Functional Genomics Core Laboratory

Director: Emmett, Neremiah

Summary:

The Morehouse School of Medicine Functional Genomics Core is an RCMI funded core that provides fee-based microarray ‘-OMICS’ services for research investigators using glass slide technology platforms. We are an Agilent Certified Core facility and a member of the Association of Biomolecular Research Core Facilities (ABRF) worldwide. Specifically we provide assistance, or full services, from RNA isolation to scanning hybridized microarrays and raw data extraction. In conjunction with the RCMI Bioinformatics Core, we provide full services in the analyses of ‘-omics’ datasets. We support all microarray products from Agilent as well as any other array company that utilizes uncoated glass slide technologies. We also provide consultative services for custom microarray design.

  • Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer ( Microfluidics platform )

"The Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer is a microfluidics-based platform for sizing, quantification and quality control of DNA, RNA, proteins and cells on a single platform. Results are delivered within 30-40 minutes in automated, high quality digital data."

  • Agilent DNA Microarray Scanner with SureScan High Resolution Technology ( Array scanner )

"Agilent’s high-resolution microarray scanner is part of an improved microarray platform that provides greater transcript definition and chromosomal definition, as well as expression measurements that more accurately reflect the range of gene activity in biological systems. Agilent’s system produces accurate relative quantitation of signal levels over a range of more than six orders of magnitude, far exceeding the capabilities of other systems. This enhances data quality across a broad range of applications such as gene expression, miRNA profiling, array CGH, ChIP, and methylation assays."

  • Human CGH microarray, 1x1M ( Microarray )

The Agilent Human Genome CGH Microarray is a high-resolution tool for genome-wide DNA copy number variation profiling without amplification or complexity reduction. Comprehensive probe coverage is enhanced with emphasis on known genes, promoters, miRNAs, pseudoautosomal, and telomeric regions.

  • Human CpG Island microarray, 1x244K ( Microarray )

The Agilent Human DNA Methylation Microarray is designed to interrogate known CpG islands and two additional groups of methylated DNA. The array is specifically designed for analysis of methylated DNA derived from affinity-based isolation methods such as methylated DNA immunoprecipitation (MDIP).

  • Human DNA Methylation microarray, 1x244k ( Microarray )

The Agilent Human CpG Island Microarray provides researchers with comprehensive, genome-wide insight into how DNA methylation changes may be correlated to critical biological development processes including cancer, genomic imprinting, gene silencing and chromatin stability. Probes optimized for maximum sensitivity and specificity.

  • Human ENCODE ChIP-on-chip microarray ( Microarray )

The Human ENCODE ChIP-on-chip Microarray is optimized using probes specifically validated for ChIP-on-chip technology. It is designed to specifically identify human DNA binding proteins within the ENCODE regions through traditional chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) pull-down coupled with powerful DNA microarray location analysis.

  • Human Exon G3 microarrays, 2x400K ( Microarray )

The Agilent SurePrint G3 Exon Microarrays make it easy to transition from standard
expression analysis to exon analysis. Probes are designed to target all exons within genes based on well-annotated and up-to-date databases, ensuring both comprehensive and relevant coverage across the genome. Our high-quality 60-mer probes ensure high sensitivity and accuracy for all Agilent gene expression microarrays, including the new exon arrays. The Low Input Quick Amp WT Labeling Kit (LIQAWT) makes amplification and labeling from a low amount of RNA quick and easy. Having been co-developed with these arrays, LIQA WT is optimized to maintain an accurate representation of RNA species, now across whole transcripts. In addition, GeneSpring 11.5 provides new features for the analysis of splicing events along with gene-level expression, lending confidence in the detection of subtle changes now possible with the exon microarrays system.

  • Human Genome CGH+SNP microarray ( Microarray )

The Agilent SurePrint G3 Human Comparative Genomic Hybridization (CGH) platform has been extended to include a set of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) probes on the same microarray. This allows for the simultaneous, high-resolution detection of copy number and copy-neutral variations, without running two separate microarray experiments. The same straight-forward Agilent CGH workflow is used to prepare the samples for hybridization to the SurePrint G3 Human CGH+SNP microarrays. Restriction digestion of genomic DNA allows genotyping of SNPs located in the enzymes’ recognition sites. After labeling and hybridization, CGH+SNP microarray data are analyzed using novel algorithms contained within Agilent’s Genomic Workbench software.

  • Human High Resolution CNV microarray, 1x1M ( Microarray )

Agilent SurePrint G3 and High-definition CNV microarrays enable multiple loci to be assessed simultaneously, allowing for their identification and characterization. The microarrays provide high-resolution and optimized probe design for maximal sensitivity and specificity as required by the researcher.

  • Human miRNA microarray Release 16.0, 8x60K ( Microarray )

Agilent Human microRNA Microarrays generate complete microRNA profiles in order to provide broad insight into human expression and regulation. Probe design, coupled with a unique labeling method, works in concert to provide the optimal sensitivity and specificity that your work demands.

  • Mouse Exon G3 microarrays, 2x400k ( Microarray )

"The Agilent SurePrint G3 Mouse Exon Microarrays come in two options, offering a choice in coverage and throughput. Offering probes targeting individual exons, these arrays make it possible to look beyond the gene to more subtle but relevant expression changes. Agilent Gene Expression Microarrays remain the fast, simple, and affordable choice in gene expression analysis, with new capabilities to drill down into important RNA changes including those at the exon level. Importantly, the gold standard sensitivity provided by Agilent Gene Expression Microarrays has been retained in these new Exon versions, so that even the smallest fold changes are detected."
